How to Join EU AI Consultations: A Have Your Say Guide

How to submit public feedback on EU AI rules via the Have Your Say portal: a 6-step guide, using the Oct 12, 2026 AI Office proceedings draft consultation as an example.

One-line summary

The European Commission opens AI legislation and implementing rules to public feedback through the Have Your Say portal on the Better Regulation platform; using the AI Office proceedings draft (opened October 12, 2026) as an example, any individual or organisation can submit comments online within the feedback window.

When to Use

The European Commission invites public feedback on AI-related laws and implementing rules through the Have Your Say portal of the Better Regulation platform, and the feedback is used to revise draft texts. Compliance teams, research institutions, industry associations and individuals can all participate. As an example, on October 12, 2026 the Commission published a draft implementing regulation on AI Office case proceedings (Ares(2026)9589403, implementing AI Act Articles 75c/75d), with a feedback window from October 12 to November 9, 2026 (23:59 Brussels time).

Steps

  1. Visit the Commission's Have Your Say portal (ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say), the single entry point for public feedback on EU legislation and implementing rules.
  2. In the "Open feedback" section, search by keyword, e.g. AI Act, AI Office or the implementing regulation title.
  3. Open the draft page and read the summary, the full draft text and background materials (such as impact assessments or annexes).
  4. Click the feedback entry, fill in your name, organisation (optional), country and your comments; comments can be written in any official EU language with no length limit.
  5. Submit before the deadline; note that the deadline is 23:59 Brussels time (CET/CEST).
  6. Follow the outcome: after the consultation closes, the Commission publishes a summary of received feedback on the draft page for public review and revises the text accordingly.

Notes

  • Feedback windows are typically 4 weeks; late submissions are not accepted, so plan ahead.
  • The Commission expects comments to be relevant to the consultation; supporting technical documents or data are welcome.
  • Each person can submit one feedback per draft; organisational and individual submissions are separate.
  • Feedback is public by default; do not include confidential business information.
  • For draft status, the AI Act Service Desk (ai-act-service-desk.ec.europa.eu) provides official information.
